The mission of ESGAO is to provide education of the membership and the public about the characteristics of the greyhound breed and assist in the transition of the dogs from racing property to companion pets. ESGAO operates exclusively as a not-for-profit charitable and educational entity within the definition expressly defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. For that reason, ESGAO shall not engage in any other activities that are not exempt from Federal Income Tax as specified by that Section of the Code or of any future provisions of the United States Internal Revenue Law. Additionally, contributions to ESGAO are deductible under Section 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or of corresponding provisions of any future portions of United States Internal Revenue Law).
ESGAO operates to rescue greyhounds from racing venues, shelters and individuals or groups that can no longer maintain care and/or treatment of the animal. ESGAO will receive the dog(s), evaluate them for needed veterinary care, initial training needed and temperament of the animal. Dogs will be kenneled or fostered as available to provide initial acclimation to a home life away from track or other less desirable living conditions. To maintain focus on the mission and purpose as stated above, ESGAO takes a neutral position toward the Greyhound Racing industry.
